An early start again, fuelled with porridge & berries, & of course an espresso or two, Julie & I set off around 9.30am for a 40mile ride, her longest so far this year. Still blowing very strongly & with trepidation we set off on what I consider my standard 40 mile route that many rides have evolved from. Out through Netherseal to Clifton Campville, a 20 minute warm up with a tail wind. Crossing the main street in Clifton Campville the road makes a brief sharp rise before we turn towards Thorpe Seckington & on to cross another main road & pass through Seckington & take advantage of a nice steady fall in the road. Another couple of miles rolling along & then it’s a tight left into the wind & upwards to boot. There’s another drop before a good steady drag for half a mile or so. Julie makes the drag in fine form, she has made a conscious effort over the last few months to improve & increase her cadence which is paying dividends. Onwards to Grendon, where I wish very time I pass the Farm Shop it had a flag to assist me with wind direction, & swing left for Piwall. Crossing the Atherstone road we’re still riding into the wind, Julie practising her ‘follow that wheel’ technique, as if we were riding a two up Time Trial.
Continuing along the lane we pass through Witherly & Atterton to join the A444 for a mile before turning onto Fenn Lanes & the long drag, wind on nose, towards Sutton Cheney. A quick breather at the Wharf & onto Market Bosworth for Coffee & Cake!
We met a few guys here from another local club in Tamworth. From the cafe it was pretty much a tailwind all the way home, sweet.
Well done to Julie, a great effort, things look promising…..
